ECDC Training Fellowship Program (EPIET & EUPHEM)
The new calls for the ECDC international fellowship have been published. The two-year ECDC paid training allows the fellow to carry out activities related to the surveillance and epidemiology of communicable diseases.
The ECDC Fellowship Programme has the following programme objectives is to strengthen the surveillance and control of infectious diseases and other cross-border health threats or issues of public health concern in the EU/EEA Member States and at EU level, supporting the implementation of Decision 1082/2013/EU
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) was established in 2005. It is an EU agency aimed at strengthening Europe’s defences against infectious diseases. It is located in Solna, Sweden. ECDC works in three key strategic areas: it provides evidence for effective and efficient decision-making, it strengthens public health systems, and it supports the response to public health threats.

- This is a two-year training fellowship programme.
Study Subject:
- Interested candidates can apply to become a Fellow in one of the two paths offered by the program: epidemiology and microbiology of public health.
Nationality:
- Applicants must be nationals of a Member State of the EU/EEA (1) and should have experience in public health, epidemiology or microbiology.

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
In order to be eligible for the ECDC Fellowship Programme, candidates for both paths need to fulfil the following set of formal requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of at least two official languages of the EU/EEA, one of which shall be English;
- Be a national of a Member State of EU/EEA*; and
- Be entitled to her or his full rights as a citizen.
UK nationals remain eligible to apply for the 2020 cohort. However, due to the uncertainties posed by the UK’s notification of its intention to leave the European Union, ECDC cannot guarantee that candidates will be eligible to start or complete their fellowship at host sites, since the start date for Cohort 2020 is after 29 March 2020.
In addition, depending on the path they apply for, candidates need to fulfil the following formal requirements:
Specific eligibility requirements for EPIET Path:
Post-secondary education attested by a diploma in medicine, public health, epidemiology, veterinary medicine, nursing, biology, microbiology, pharmacology, biomedicine or other health and social sciences, at the level of Graduate diploma or Masters’ degree or equivalent; and at least one (1) full year working experience in public health or epidemiology.
Specific eligibility requirements for EUPHEM Path:
Post-secondary education attested by a diploma in medicine, biology, microbiology, veterinary medicine, pharmacology, or biomedicine, at the level of Graduate diploma or Masters’ degree or equivalent; and at least three (3) years of working experience in microbiology; or a PhD degree in microbiology or equivalent.
For applicants with a background in laboratory sciences, previous experience in public health and epidemiology is an advantage.

Step 2: E-mail the Case Id
- E-mail the Case Id that will be provided through the online submission to ecdc.epietfellow-at-ecdc.europa.eu – clearly indicating Surname, EPIET or EUPHEM and the Case Id, in the Subject line.
- Applications must be in English, the working language of the Centre. You may be requested at a later stage to supply documentary evidence in original in support of the statements that you make for this application.
- The application will be rejected if the dossier is incomplete.
